Case study: Bladder infections

Dear Dr Cabot

I have been experiencing frequent bouts of bladder infections which require antibiotics. I am finding that the antibiotics are causing thrush and giving me indigestion.  They also don’t really cure the bladder infections because they recur about 6 weeks after stopping the antibiotics.
I also have a bad taste in my mouth and am worried that I have bad breath.
Please help.

Dear Marie

You need to strengthen your immune system and use natural antibiotics to prevent these infections.
I recommend that you take –

Olive leaf extract capsules, and tablets containing the herbs thyme, wormwood and barberry.  All of these herbs have powerful anti-microbial effects.  They are also beneficial for treating thrush and digestive problems.  The bad breath is probably coming from a poorly functioning digestive system, but I recommend you see your dentist to rule out a dental cause.

Fish oil contains omega 3 essential fatty acids to reduce inflammation of the mucous membranes.  Fish oil is also excellent for strengthening the immune system.

Cranberry has a specific anti-bacterial effect on the urinary system.  It is best taken in capsule or tablet form, as cranberry juice is often high in sugar.

A good probiotic (good bacteria like acidophilus & bifidus) will help your digestion, your urinary tract and the thrush.  The health of your intestinal tract has an enormous bearing on the health of your genito-urinary system.

A good raw juice combination to reduce urinary infections is –
2 carrots
1 apple
2 sticks celery
1 clove garlic
1 cm slice ginger

Drink this raw juice every day
Make sure that you drink at least 2 litres of water daily
Avoid drinking strong tea and coffee
Avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates
Use stevia instead of sugar to sweeten your beverages
